Americans in Ausland: Time is Not on Your Side

Expat Americans! If you’re living abroad, would like to vote in the upcoming presidential election and haven’t registered yet* you’ve got about 48 hours to go to this site, fill out the online form, print out the pdf (only page 4 necessary) and send it by mail. Actual mail, to the address given for your district. Since no state has a registration deadline before October 6, according to the deadlines page, you’ve now got 15 days (but 11 postal days) for your letter to arrive stateside. Since a typical letter to the US, in my experience, takes 7-11 days to arrive, you should probably send in the form by tomorrow at the latest. There’s also something about using a so-called security envelope, which is simply an envelope inside an envelope. And if there’s one thing Americans love it’s security, am I right?

*you still have to re-apply even if you absentee-voted in 2004 (I asked)

Stumble it!
